Josh Hawkins
Artistic Director / Choreographer


Josh Hawkins is a choreographer/dancer currently supported as Artist in Residence at The University of Salford. Josh founded ‘Hawk Dance Theatre’ in 2015 and since then has received several funding awards from Arts Council England to support the production of his projects. 
Josh has produced works for various platforms (stage, screen and festivals) which have been showcased throughout the country. Josh was commissioned to create a Random Acts film by Tyneside Cinema, which was broadcast on Channel 4’s TV platform in November 2015. His film, 'The Blackest Day' won an award for the Best Experimental Short Film at the London City Film Awards 2017.
Josh was recently commissioned to create a full length film work for Akademi's latest production 'The Troth', which has toured the UK and India.
Josh has experience of collaborating with a number of artists and mentors and most recently had the opportunity to work with established UK choreographer Gary Clarke as his choreographic mentor. 
Josh delivers workshops extensively and has guest delivered at a range of arts organisations including: The Lowry, Dance4, DanceXchange, Ludus Dance and Brewery Arts.
Josh graduated from Northern School of Contemporary Dance with a first class honours degree in 2013. He spent 2013-14 working with Verve (postgraduate performance company). During this time, he worked with established national UK choreographers; Lea Anderson, Ben Duke and GoddardNixon. 

 

Nicolette Whitely

Nicolette Whitley completed her degree at Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA).  Her experience as a performer spans across Film, TV and Theatre throughout the UK and internationally. Nicolette is currently working with Fallen Angels Dance Theatre (FADT), under the guidance of former Royal Ballet soloist Paul Bayes Kitcher. FADT is a Royal Opera House Links Partner and have recently collaborated with world renowned choreographer Russell Maliphant.

Nicolette is part of Martz Contemporary Dance Company (MCDC) for choreographer Eva Sánchez Martz. MCDC has enabled Nicolette to further her creative development and enhance as an artist while performing in countries such as Spain, Italy and Switzerland.

Her live performance credits include; The Royal Opera House, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Latitude Festival and 3D Filmusic Barcelona. In addition, TV credits include The Inbetweeners movie, 8 out of 10 Cats, Commercials for Argos, Virgin and Oral B featuring Shakira. She has also worked for brands such as Guess, Gap, VOGUE Brasil, and Adidas launching Stella McCartney’s new sports range at Topshop.

Nicolette has a passion for choreography and was a co-founder of the contemporary lyrical dance duo Alleviate. Alleviate were the runners up on Sky 1’s Got To Dance series 2 and went on to star in the hit dance show Flash Mob at Sadler's Wells Peacock Theatre in the West End. Alleviate were also invited to perform for the Queen at Buckingham Palace and appeared at An Evening with Strictly Come Dancing Stars Karen and Kevin for two consecutive years.

With her desire for travel Nicolette completed a stint in India performing on television under the guidance of world famous Bollywood choreographer Ganesh Hegde. Here she performed in the 59th FilmFare Awards with stars such as Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and more.  

Over the last six years Nicolette has been mentored and collaborated with Jacqueline Jones, ex principle dancer for Ballet Rambert. The most memorable project they did together was in China, where Nicolette was the workshop leader for dance at the “Xiamen Haicang Elementary school” an affiliated school to the prestigious Beijing Normal University. The project finished with a successful performance at the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing. Nicolette was also a lecturer at the Institute of Arts Barcelona (IAB) in Spain and her international teaching credits inlcude Switzerland, India, Portugal, Ireland and China. Nicolette really enjoys teaching and is consistently attempting to pass her passion for dance onto the next generation in her native North Wales area; working with local dance schools and colleges.
