Virtual Dance Community - How To Join

An Online Class

Using Zoom with Cheshire Dance in 5 easy steps

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cheshire Dance is hosting dance sessions online using ZOOM – a video conferencing platform. Super simple to use, this platform will not only allow you to see your dance teacher, but also the other participants taking part in the class. ZOOM can be used on a laptop, a desktop computer, a tablet such as an iPad, or a smart phone. Depending on which device you use, how you virtually attend your class will be slightly different.

Here’s how it works if you’re using a laptop or desktop computer:

  1. 1) By Email / WhatsApp, you’ll receive a link to a “Zoom Meeting” along with a unique meeting ID. It will look something like this: https://zoom.us/j/1234567, Meeting ID: 1234567.

  2. 2) Simply click on the meeting link at the time your class is scheduled to join the session. This will open up a window in your internet browser and will connect directly to your class.

  3. 3) Ensure your microphone and video is on – if this is not the case, click the icons (usually at the bottom of the Zoom screen) to turn them on.

  4. 4) Alternatively, you could also create a free Zoom account yourself at http://zoom.us. Once you have signed up, you can select ‘join a meeting’ and input the meeting ID manually.

  5. 5) Your dance teacher will act as the “host” of the meeting and will arrive at the virtual session 10 minutes before the start time.

Here’s how it works if you’re using a tablet or smart phone:

  1. 1) If you would like to join a session using a tablet or smart phone, you need to download the Zoom app in your app store in preparation.

  2. 2) By Email or Whatsapp, your teacher will send you a link to a “Zoom Meeting”. It will look something like this:  https://zoom.us/j/1234567, Meeting ID: 1234567.

  3. 3) When the class is about to start, open the Zoom app and join the meeting using the unique Meeting ID, or, simply click the link sent to you by Email/WhatsApp. This link will automatically open up in the app.

  4. 4) Ensure your microphone and video is turned on using the icons on the screen.

  5. 5) Your dance teacher will act as the “host” of the meeting and will arrive at the virtual session 10 minutes before the start time.
