Shelley Owen is an independent performance artist, researcher, curator and mentor.
Creating and touring dance and interdisciplinary work internationally, her research interests include; gender and identity, womanhood, representation of body in the gallery, cognition, and contemporary performance making.
Founding member and core researcher for the International Interdisciplinary Improvisation Festival (WHAT IIIF?). Shelley is also co-founder and curator of the LATITUDE 0. Series. Passionate about the development of the sector and the importance of artist-centred decision making, Shelley is an advocate for the voice of independent artists. Greater Manchester representative and working group member for the North West of England dance artist led for artists network (ALFA). She is a Mentor currently working with early career visual and performance artists.
Masters Alumni of London Contemporary Dance School and Create Place Leadership Programme recipient, Shelley is Director on the Board of Touchdown Dance and Cheshire Dance.
ALFA – Artists Led For Artists – advocates for dance artists and their connections to the wider dance sector; to champion diversity and visibility of artists as well as share resources and knowledge to further the development of the art of dance.
