Josh is a dance & movement artist, lecturer and researcher. He studied BA (hons) Dance with Drama & Theatre Studies at the University of Chester, achieving a first class degree. From that point Josh was awarded funding from Santander and the University of Chester to set up enCompass Collective Dance Theatre with fellow graduate Eleanor Russell. The company was company in residence at The University of Chester for 5 years, creating and touring dance theatre work across the UK and Internationally.
Alongside this Josh developed a teaching practice, working at a secondary school and 6th form before visiting lecturing at The University of Chester and the University of Worcester. In 2017 Josh moved to Plymouth to become Head of Movement at Plymouth Conservatoire, University of Plymouth and in 2018 became a full time lecturer in Dance, Theatre & Performance. Josh has recently moved to London to become a Senior Lecturer at London Studio Centre. Josh is also a researcher, having completed his MRes degree in 2018 at The University of Chester, and undertaking a part time PhD in Dance at The Centre for Dance Research (C-DaRe) at Coventry University. He is currently a board member for Cheshire Dance and Exim Dance CIC.
Practically, Josh has worked as a dancer, choreographer, actor, movement director and director. He works across contemporary dance, dance theatre, devising, physical theatre and site specific performance.
Cheshire Dance works within the community and in education settings to enrich young lives through dance. Dance & Young People forms an integral part of the principle Cheshire Dance Programme.
Arts Council England is the national development agency for creativity and culture. Cheshire Dance is a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England.
