Crossing Point, a cross curricular dance project for schools in Cheshire, provided an opportunity for young people to develop dance skills, deepen curriculum knowledge of a chosen topic and perform.

The Crossing Point project saw Dance Artists from Cheshire Dance work with more than 180 children in KS1 and KS2 across six schools in the region in early 2022. The project culminated in a film screening of the performance for the school and parents.

Crossing Point included a large focus on working with class teachers to build their confidence at embedding dance across the curriculum going forwards. Additional teacher training helped staff to weave the art form into pupil’s learning and development.

Children that took part in the Crossing Point Project have commented:

  •  ‘I like learning new skills in dance, the teachers were so nice and I want them to come back again and again!’
  • ‘I liked interacting with my friends and working with people that I don’t normally play with.  I made lots of new friends!’
  • ‘The dance workshops made me feel so happy and excited.  Mondays are now my favourite because we get to do dance.’
  • ‘I was really proud of our dance film.  We look like professional dancers on the television’

"Our experience of working with Cheshire Dance over the past few terms has been amazing. From the outset I wanted the Dance curriculum to stem from our Connected Curriculum key text. Connor and Joanne were excellent in interpreting the key text for each year group and weaving their dance program around it. In each session the pupils were given clear structures and progression was built in. Each lesson included key movement language and technique and each was delivered with enthusiasm and energy.

We were delighted with the final outcomes which were kindly captured by Connor and Joanne and made into a unique video that shared our journey. Whilst working with the pupils, staff observed and picked up new skills to use with their classes in future lessons. However, having experts in house is well worth it and gives the children experiences that they will remember for years to come.

I would highly recommend working with Cheshire Dance and look forward to collaborating with them in the future, strengthening our partnerships to offer children at Kelsall high quality Dance opportunities and development."
